“Creating Learning Communities in Rural Areas”

CONTENT

The workshop focuses on the role of education in rural areas. We believe that fostering sustainable communities forms the foundation for Peace, both in  the realms of relationships between nature and humanity, as well as among people themselves.

Learning how to form and sustain communities includes peace building skills like awareness, dialogue, consensus, climate literacy and collective action.

Nadežda is currently establishing the very first Folk High School in the least densely populated are of Lithuania – the Zarasai region. Due to increasing organization, many of the rural communities of the region are declining, schools are closing and infrastructure is not developing with too few new investments coming in.

The youth and young adults are not receiving a lot of cultural and educational opportunities, which often results in radical polarization of society when it comes to political choices.

What does it mean to run non-formal adult education? Bring new forms of it? Work in rural communities? Join and learn more about the topic and debate on the future perspectives in the region of Eastern Europe and the Europe at large.
