Fundamentals of Systems Thinking
Workshop hosted by Siddharth Jain
Friday 9 May 2025 · Afternoon · 2 hours
The “Fundamentals of Systems Thinking” workshop introduced participants to the core ideas behind understanding complex, interconnected challenges. The session opened with a short check-in activity that helped everyone set intentions and get comfortable engaging with one another. Participants then took part in an interactive exercise where they created a “mini system” together through movement, followed by a brief reflection on how simple actions can influence a wider system.
The workshop continued with a group discussion on the basics of systems thinking. Key concepts such as feedback loops, interdependencies, and leverage points were introduced, and participants were encouraged to notice the systems that operate in their own environments. This led into a hands-on systems mapping activity, where participants visualized how different elements of climate action, peace, and justice connect and influence each other.
The session concluded with a reflection period, allowing participants to consider how systems thinking could apply to real-world challenges in their communities or work. A short check-out activity wrapped up the workshop, closing with shared insights and takeaways.
